A promise can be broken. These are properties of how Firedown is built.
Downloads move straight from the site to your phone — no server of ours in the middle. The app carries no telemetry, no analytics, no tracking IDs.
Encrypted on your phone before they leave it. Our server stores ciphertext under a random account number — no name, no email, no key.
There is no account to identify you and no history to disclose. Anyone who compels or steals our data gets ciphertext and file sizes.
The two cloud features, both off by default. Everything they store leaves your phone encrypted:
Keep your bookmarks in sync across your own devices — end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read them. No account, just a recovery code you alone hold. Off by default.
Back up your downloaded files the same way — end-to-end encrypted, unreadable to us. Pay only for the storage you use; bookmark sync stays free.

Every build is signed with the same key across all channels, and Firedown has no telemetry, no tracking and no advertising IDs. You can verify any release's SHA-256 against our GitHub releases.
No. Bookmark sync is end-to-end encrypted: your bookmarks are scrambled on your phone before they're uploaded, so our server only ever stores ciphertext it cannot read — never your titles, URLs or anything else. Sync is optional and off by default, and needs no account, email or phone number. The encrypted backup for downloaded files works the same zero-knowledge way.
Your recovery code is generated on your device and is the only key to your encrypted data — we never see it and cannot reset it. That's exactly what keeps your data private, but it also means that if you lose the code, no one (including us) can decrypt your synced bookmarks, and they're gone for good. Keep your recovery code somewhere safe.
